RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE

2003 - Century 21 Virtual Presentation Library (With Triad Communications)

2004 IIS 5.0, ASP, Javascript, SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Powerpoint with Document Automation

(Intranet site, PDF of screen shots available upon request.)

Century 21 distributes marketing materials to its agents in the form of Powerpoint presentations. But, many agents lack full versions of Powerpoint or the skill to create graphically rich presentations. The VPL application provides the agents with a collection of Powerpoint templates, individual slides and backgrounds. The agent can combine slides from the collection into a shopping cart of slides, preview the output, customize the content on many of the slides and produce a complete, customized presentation on-line. Additionally, the site interfaces with an on-line greeting card application to allow an HTML version of the presentation to be combined with greeting cards as a marketing tool. Full administration capabilities are included as well.

2003 - USCCB - United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Consultation Management System

2007 IIS 5.0, ASP.NET, Microsoft Access

The system allows users to create consultations, upload documents to support the consultation, invite participants to enter comments and collates the responses. It automatically sends emails to the originator whenever someone participates in a consultation. A suite of administration tools allow the administrators to modify functionality.

2003 - CCSSE

Cold Fusion MX, SAS 8 statistical server, SQL Server 2000

Every year CCSSE surveys thousands of students at around 100 colleges on almost 100 different questions. In addition, demographic data is collected at the student and college level.

The CCSSE survey system required that multiple, disparate data sets be cleaned up, homogenized and loaded to the SAS and SQL Server. SAS scripts were written to load the data, run a number of different queries and generate complicated dynamic graphs. Entire project completed in less than 3 months.

2003 - Human Events Online and Forecasts and Strategies Online

2004 PHP 4.0, Aapche, mySQL, Smarty content management system

www.humaneventsonline.com, www.markskousen.com

The Human Events Online and Forecasts and Strategies Online systems are the web presence for two printed newsletters. The online systems present additional content not available in the printed versions, as well as more timely articles, updated constantly. The online system collects payments for subscriptions, manages change-of-address operations, allows differing access according to subscription plans and contains an advertising management system. A number of back end processes communicate with the subscription fulfillment center for the print version as well as the publishing databases. Both systems, as well as at least two new systems in development, use nearly identical code bases. The Smarty templates allow the editors and designers to customize the content without assistance from the developers.

1999 - Book Clubs

2004          Conservative Book Club, National Review Book Service, others

IIS 5.0, ASP, Javascript, SQL Server 2000 with Full Text Indexes and DTS Jobs, Progress Webspeed

www.conservativebookclub.com, www.nrbookservice.com

E-commerce sites providing an extensive catalog of products, the capability to search and purchase books as well as participate in an online community. There are functions for checking the status of current and past orders, making payments and accepting or rejecting the currently selected book.

The system operates as an n-tier application with separate layers for the user interface, the primary database as well as the corporate legacy database. Support functions automate the process of collecting new book information, updating inventory and alerting the system administrators in the case of errors or critical system events.

One of the co-branded sites pulls data from a third party book distributor, allowing access to over a million books. Automated processes keep the local data synchronized with the distributor and manage orders and shipping status transactions.

Due to extensive code reuse and system automation this system typically requires less than 5 hours of support per week.

2002 - National Park Foundation Pass Purchase Site (With Triad Communications)

IIS 5.0, ASP, SQL Server 2000 with stored procedures and DTS jobs

buy.nationalparks.org

The site consists of a number of pages to collect personal information from the customer, allowing them to customize their pass. Upon checkout the customer s information is captured and a nightly process transmits the day s information to a third party vendor for pass creation and mailing. Additionally, a call center takes phone calls from customers to purchase passes. They use a separate interface to purchase the pass. A Business to Business section of the site is also set up for bulk pass purchases by the parks for sales at the gate. An administrative section of the website allows modifications of current promotions, handling of refunds and other order manipulation and reporting functions. Functions for sending email confirmations during ordering as well as shipment notifications as well as generating transmission files for communications with the vendors occur automatically.

2002 - National Park Foundation Donations (With Triad Communications)

2007 IIS 5.0, ASP, SQL Server 2000 with stored procedures and DTS jobs

http://www.nationalparks.org/Donate/Donate-DO.asp

The site consists of a few relatively simple pages that collect personal and payment information as well as any specific requests from the donor. The donor may designate where the donation should be used, if it is memoriam of someone else, or other special requests. A number of affiliate sites also drive traffic to the donation section and that source information is tracked as well. The most complex part of this site is due to the business rule that if someone donates $125.00 or more, they receive a free National Parks Pass. The system communicates with the Park Pass system to allow the user to checkout and receive a pass without having to pay.

Reporting tools and other administrative functions allow management of the donation process and affiliates.

2001 - PACT Publications

IIS 5.0, ASP, Microsoft Access

www.pactpublications.org

The project is a straightforward shopping cart system with some custom modifications. A front page highlights new and best selling books and publications as conditions change. Many publications are available in a variety of languages and many are not available until ordered, so in-stock status is crucial.

Additional functions include administrative pages for stock and invoice management, a mailing list management program and tools for editing the front page content.

2001 - Link Popularity Check

Apache Web Server, Perl 5.0, MySQL database server

www.linkpopularitycheck.com

As an added service for the Webposition application, FirstPlace Software provides a site where a user can compare the popularity of their site (a count of hits when searching for their site on a search engine, not including links within the original site) against other websites.

The application has two major functions. In the first, the comparisons are done on the fly by querying the search engines in parallel for each for each of the searches and extracting the pertinent data from the results and combining the results into an output table. In the second function, the user may sign up for a periodic email that will automatically run the search and report the results via email. The primary purpose of the email is marketing Webposition products.

The system is not complex, but it processes hundreds of thousands of searches a month, sending tens of thousands of emails.
